Farmers Market Shopping & Cooking

Do you love strolling the Farmer’s Market? Does the bounty of fresh produce inspire you to fill your shopping basket only to arrive home unsure about what to do with it? Javalicious has the answer to your woes. Walk through the market with a nutrition expert and learn how to spot the freshest, most healthful options. Speak with vendors and learn how to ask just the right questions about preparation, purchase and storage. As a group we will purchase the best and freshest that the market has to offer that day and bring it back to a professionally-equipped kitchen. Together we will learn how to best prepare each ingredient and combine them into mouthwatering vegetarian dishes. Through discussion and note-taking we will discover little-know cooking shortcuts, how to healthfully improvise and substitute and which cooking techniques are appropriate according to ingredient.   We will discuss seasonings, the use of fresh herbs and spices and even how to use therapeutic grade essential oils in cooking! When the cooking is done, we will of course eat and enjoy all the deliciousness we created.

Stand Up Straight: Myfascial Shoulder Kundalini

Does your lower back ache at the end of the day? Do you work at a computer and suffer from wrist pain or “tech neck”? Modern workplaces and the smartphone technology that has expanded our horizons and increased our learning have sadly taken a huge toll on our posture. Javalicious can help! Our Stand up Straight! Workshop is a 3 hour exploration designed to give participants a variety of tools to strengthen the abdominals, relax and soften the neck and jaw and most importantly turn any Yoga class into a posture-enhancing workout! We will discuss and practice daily habits to lengthen the spine by strengthening the paraspinals and SCI muscles. We will even reveal and teach you a simple, short active stretching routine that can be done at your desk to decrease jaw pain and neck stiffness. Basic Myofascial Techniques that you can use in any yoga class or hotel gym will be incorporated into a vigorous Hathalini/Vinyasa Yoga Practice and you will learn to use a simple little golf ball for relaxing releases you never thought possible! The small class size will ensure loads of individual attention – everyone will get a posture assessment from Andrina and Niki and together we will generate a written checklist for improvement. Finally, we will cement in the learning that our minds and bodies have done with a delicious Aromatherapy Yoga Nidra session. Bring any Myofascial devices that you would like to learn to use but don’t worry, we will provide all the props you need for this invigorating and learning-intensive session. We absolutely guarantee that you will walk out the door feeling taller and stronger!

Yoga for Magical Mornings is a 3 Hour Workshop designed to give both new and experienced yogis a toolkit of techniques to turn mornings into a delicious opportunity for gentle exercise, self reflection and even productivity! Using the latest research in the science of the power of habit, we will design and practice a gentle seated yoga routine which warms up the fascia and energizes the nervous system. We will present several journaling options culled from the personal practices of the most successful thought leaders of our time. We will present a wide variety of meditation, breathwork and nutritional options for you to consider and implement into your magical morning routine as your life changes. Happy Hormones: find your balance

Do you feel like your hormones are taking you on a roller coaster ride? Are hot flashes, weight gain, skin changes, amenoria or loss of sex drive/fertility plaguing you? Our hormones are magical liquids created by our endocrine system to regulate our bodies functions, but a multitude of factors in modern life can throw them out of balance. Learn to change that roller coaster into a dance! Yoga for Happy Hormones is a 3 hour Workshop designed to give women of all ages (and the men who love them!) a set of 3 distinct tools to stimulate and regulate their own endocrine systems, turning that mixed-up soup into a delicious cocktail and making their hormones dance! We will design and practice a twisting yoga routine which squeezes and soaks the joints, soft tissue and endocrine glands. We will discuss the difficulties and joys of a regular breath and meditation practice to reduce the cascade of stress hormones which wash over our bodies daily and finally we will provide you with a essential oil blend to bring our hormone levels into homeostatic balance. You will be greeted upon arrival with a delicious antioxidant-rich smoothie, and then we will settle comfortably into a 90 minute Yin Yoga practice under the warm light of the lanterns. Andrina and Niki will pamper you with loads of hands-on therapeutic adjustments using custom-created essential oil blends! Feet Up! Heart over Head

The Javalicious Team is overjoyed to introduce you to Cate Spinnier! She, along with a pretty cool prop) will get our hearts over our heads,  turn our worlds gently upside-down and open us up to brand new perspectives!

This three hour workshop offers you a delightful introduction to the world of Feetup®. Cate  will teach you a simple, step by step approach to inverted postures. Headstand is simply not possible for many people because of restrictions in the neck or cervical spine.  Feetup® allows you to enjoy the benefits of being in inverted postures in a playful way and lets you experience the myriad positive effects  of having your heart over your head!
In this guided workshop you will learn the many ways that the versatile Feetup® prop can be used. (This will expand your practice if you already own one. If you don’t own one, it will make you want to!). Cate encourages you to practice at your own pace without feeling pressured to going into a traditional Headstand – Feetupasana is a “may” but never a “must”. Using carefully selected preliminary exercises, she will prepare the body to practice the magic of inverted postures, put a huge smile onto your face and get you into Flow!
(Inverted postures can have beneficial effects on shoulder and neck complaints, sleep disorders and indigestion. If you have hypertension or eye diseases please alert us when you register and check with your doctor to ensure that inverted postures are suitable for you.)

Cate Spinnler has found her passion in movement very early, since 2004 she has been continuously educating herself in the various facets of different movement concepts and today she is a valued teacher at home and abroad due to her broad field of expertise. Her open-minded nature is shaped by all the travels she has made in her younger years around the globe. In June 2014, she fulfilled her dream of becoming an Acroyoga teacher and in November 2015, the second part was added on in Mexico. As a certified Acoryoga.org Level I and II, Partner Acrobatics, AcroYoga Montreal teacher, she now spreads the dynamics of the Acroyoga and the relaxation of Thai Yoga Massage with much joy, playfulness, mindfulness and gentleness. Inspirations and insights from Spiral-Dynamics, Yin Yoga and Osteopathy flow and inspire her classes one to one. Since 2015, she is on the road as a Feetup trainer and lets her creativity flow with her heart over head.

 

 

 

Happy Hips: Soft tissue opening & Kundalini Flow

Are you a fan of Andrina’s fancy footwork and brain-challenging criss cross practices? Want to learn how to unlock and repair your hips using the latest Myofascial and Functional Fitness Techniques? This intensive workshop combines the two approaches and takes us deep into our hip girdle to release, strengthen and even stimulate soft tissue growth and regeneration. We will first explore our own individual hip anatomy using Niki’s hands-on visualization techniques.  Using simple and widely-available props, we will move through a slow, targeted Myofascial Mobility practice designed to open, strengthen and begin to repair the all-important hip joints. Andrina will take over at this point, and we will experience a vigorous Kundalini Flow practice which incorporates core strength, balance and diagonal hip-strengthening work. This practice not only challenges the body, it demands us to be fully present as we work diagonally across the mat – a true mind-body workout! A delicious Yoga Nidra will follow, where we will rest and incorporate these changes into our nervous system.  You will emerge from this workshop with a deeper connection to your center, a toolkit of techniques to invigorate your personal Yoga practice and a profound sense of inner quiet that lasts for days and days….

Niki, founder of Java Yoga, received her 200 hour yoga teacher training in Philadelphia in 2002.  She has since completed an 80 hour training in Hot Yoga and a 36 hour training in Restorative Yoga in Vancouver

Rooted in an enquiry-based style and operating from the new
paradigm of BioTensegrity, Niki invites students to be deeply present and explore the daily needs of their evolving bodies.  Traditional Vijñana Yoga postures (with variation for all levels) are interspersed with Myso-fascial Manipulation, Tensegrity sequences, dance moves and Pilates. All movement is centered around the breath.Niki is heavily influenced (and occasionally overcome) by Vijñana and Kundalini Yoga, Zen Meditation, Somatics, Burlesque Dance, and Myo-Fascial Manipulation. It is her goal to assist students in ultimately becoming their own teachers.
